I'm going to be honest—growing up, I wasn't getting into the University of Notre Dame.

Not even close.

I struggled in school. I had severe ADHD. My entire family went to Notre Dame—my dad, my grandfather—but I didn't have the grades, and I didn't get accepted. That was just the reality.

But somehow… years later, I found my way into the story anyway.

Fast forward to January 2025. My wife and I were sitting front row at the national championship, watching Notre Dame take on Ohio State. Cameras were everywhere. Photographers lined the field. It felt like every big moment was being captured.

At the time, I didn't think much of it. Just another game. Another memory.

But those photos didn't disappear.

They kept showing up.

On TV. On social media. On ESPN. Months later—even close to a year later—images from that night were still being used.

And then something happened I never could have imagined.

One of those photos—me, my wife, and another leprechaun sitting front row—was selected for Notre Dame's official website in an article called "A Year to Remember."

Out of everything from that football season… that was the image they chose.

That article was written by Molly Di Carlo, and I'm incredibly grateful she chose that moment. Because for me, it wasn't just a photo.

It meant something deeper.

I didn't go to Notre Dame.

But my family did.

And to be included—even in a small way—on the official site of a place that means so much to us… that's something I'll carry forever.

That's part of why I do what I do.

When I dress up as the leprechaun, I'm not claiming to be the mascot. I'm just a fan. But I know that, whether I mean to or not, I'm representing Notre Dame in some way—at games, on TV, in photos, in public.

And I take that seriously.

I hold myself to a high standard. I always will.

I'll never embarrass the university.

I'm also 16 years sober.

And I'm proud of that.

Because this—being "Irish Train," traveling, meeting people, creating moments—it's become an outlet for something bigger. It's given me a way to have fun, connect with people, and be part of something meaningful.

I may not have gone to Notre Dame.

But somehow…

I found my way into the story.

Go Irish. ☘️
